On New Year’s Day, we celebrate the Solemnity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Holy Mother of God.
For if we truly believe that Jesus is the Word of God made flesh (Emmanuel, “God with us”), then it is appropriate to honor the Virgin Mary as the Mother of God because she gave birth to our Savior, who is true God and true man.
And if she is the Mother of the Christ, then she is the mother of all Christians and our spiritual mother as well.
May we feel her loving care for us all and come to appreciate her role in our salvation more each day.
The first weekend of January is our celebration of Epiphany and the coming of the Magi.
In this event, we see a symbol of the coming of the gentile nations to Christ, and we are reminded to lay down our gifts before the Lord so that we may serve him faithfully in all aspects of life.
We have all been given so very much. May our gratitude lead us to greater generosity and peace in this New Year.
God bless you all!
