Feast of Our Lady of Fatima Mass

Here at St. Robert Bellarmine Parish, your children are given the opportunity to fall more in love with Jesus through the hands-on Religious Education program

The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd classes are used with all pre-k thru 6th (ages 3 to 12) grade students. This Montessori based program uses age appropriate presentations and work materials for certain biblical and liturgical themes. The specially prepared environment called the “Atrium,” contains many concrete materials which allow the children to understand our faith in their mind as well as in their heart.

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd

If you peeked into one of our atriums you would see the children listening carefully as they are read a story about Jesus from the Bible, and afterwards bringing the story to life with the handmade characters.

You would hear a parable being read and see the children trying to unlock the hidden message. Some of the children might be setting up an altar, or be sitting at a prayer table.

Through the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, the relationship between Jesus and your child is being nurtured.

One of the many things we do in the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program is to take the children on a tour of the church.

We enter and make the sign of the cross with the holy water. We practice genuflecting. We visit the sacristy. We peer into the Baptismal Font. We look carefully at the stained glass windows.

We pray in our church, now very silent, with just our class inside it. We visit the altar, and the children look up in awe and reverence at the large crucifix.

One of our 5 year old’s gazed up at Jesus on the cross, and he asked the catechist, “Do you think Jesus cried when they put him on the cross?”

The catechist paused and then asked, “What do you think?” He thought for a moment and then replied, “No, he didn’t cry, he was brave.”
